  • Talk Till You Drop: V. K. Krishna Menon, a diplomat and former Defence Minister, was described by Time magazine as the second most powerful man in India after Jawaharlal Nehru. Co-founding editor of Penguin Books, Menon commanded the Indian delegation to the United Nations in 1952. In 1957, he delivered an unprecedented eight-hour speech defending India's stand on Kashmir. This speech is considered to be the longest ever delivered in the United Nations Security Council, spanning five hours of the meeting on 23rd January and two hours and forty-eight minutes on the 24th. The speech is said to have concluded with Menon's collapse on the Security Council floor.
